I am thinking of setting up a poker/casino affiliate site, has anyone got an experience of this? I am an affiliate virgin, so any pointers would be great.

I've just started building this site: http://www.bingomatchup.com/ with the idea of making some cash on bingo site sign-ups. It uses WP-Review-Engine which is a user review based system which updates scores, rankings etc and allows users to review un-registered in the comment area. It took me a weekend to get it to that state and I've still got a load of problems!

If I get this going I should be able to replicate the setup for a poker review, casino review, hosting review, theme reviews, etc etc etc... But to be honest I havent had any time to finish it off and I'm starting to think that affiliate sites arent the way for me to go as I'm finding SEO freelancing is paying a nice regular amount in a shorter period of time.

Yeah, i hear ya, my issue is, i get bombarded by "marketers" telling me how great affiliates is, and the huge amounts of money people are earning, etc etc. I would be happy with a couple of hundred a month, but i have no way of knowing if this is realistic or not.

Yeah me to. Every week someone asks me why I'm not making money from my own websites rather than helping others make money from theirs. It's all relative though, building a half decent affiliate site requires a shed load of initial work (for months and months) before you start getting any kind of kick back from it. Fair enough if you're into that routine of earning, but at the moment I don't have the time or patience to be working my arse off for a possible kick back in the future when there's instant work for solid payments on the table already.

If I could go back a few years I'd have gone down the affiliate route when I had a lot more time ont hands.

I'm looking at building my own sites to make money for me. I'm thinking another six months to a year may give me enough time to have it bring in enough to pay my bills but can never be sure until these sites are up and running how much exactly you can get from them. I know someone that was earning around £200 - £300 a month from an affiliate site and he had only been doing it about 6 months and wasn't a "proper" SEOer.

Would you guys be up for working on money making sites together? Would obviously be able to combine time and expertise that way.

Earlier this year I took my first steps into the world of affiliate marketing and put up my discount shopping site. Since then I've had a mass of ideas for other sites, a couple of which are in production. One of the ideas I'm toying with would be based around bingo sites so I posted a thread on an affiliate forum which might help. From this I got into a PM discussion with one of those who replied who offered my some good advice. I'm a bit pushed for time at the moment but I'll dig out the info she sent me and forward it on.

I used to do some affiliate marketing and by far the most important element of any Aff campaign is to have a product that sells, sounds obvious but believe me it's the hardest thing to find.

It's also a highly competitive arena and the boys that make the most from doing it, the 'super affiliates', put in some serious time creating campaigns before launching.  I only used to use PPC to drive traffic directly to the seller's site and in the end I wasn't making money anymore so I binned it.

It's a great feeling to be making money on Click bank while you sleep, I used to love waking up and checking to see how much I made overnight.

What's a realistic amount that one person could earn from affiliates? Also, what do the 'super affiliates' earn?

Got no time at the moment I'm afraid! Struggling to even maintain a social life with freelancing and the 9/5... But it will only be till the end of the year, then I'll be fully freelance... Aaah, bliss!

Depends on all the variables, some people just set-up a site for amazon ads, do little work on it and it rolls in £50 a month, so they setup 50 more? Or some people put all their effort into one site and it makes them millions.

I wanted to finish it off on my own but I think I'll have to admit defeat so if anyone wants to join forces with me on this site: http://www.bingomatchup.com - I've done most of the legwork, just needs a few more template pages sorting out, some content and some links. Let me know if you're interested. As I said, it's built with WP Review Engine and it's a pretty good CMS setup to work with.

I know affiliates that make in the tens of thousands per month but of course they're not telling me how much it cost them to make that much.  They're obviously making a living from it though.
