i've been thinking about a few different affiliate scheme websites over the last few days..
can anyone recommend which networks i should be looking at?
someone at work has recommended buy.at and told me to steer clear of affiliate window.
can anyone help?

What type of company is it for?
I can't see why you'd have been told to steer clear from awin... From a merchants standpoint they are probably one of the more costly to set up, but programmes really do get promoted with them!

sorry.. should have been more clear.
i want to set up an affiliate site for me to make some extra cash.. dont really mind what products they are really..
not done any affiliate things before so i thought i'd dip my toe in the water!

Well between you, me and the rest of the world I'll tell you that affiliate window are damn quick at approving payments and offer a twice monthly bacs payout system. But it really depends which merchants you want. Some are on more than one network so that's where the choice comes in. Myself, I'm with 10 affiliate networks with the site in my signature and run 242 merchants on that site. On the note of awin bad: I'll attatch a little screenshot of my current earnings there and I get paid out fortnightly (not trying to brag - but awin are my best network) You'll need to work out what product area you'd like to go into... as there are hundreds... Have a look here http://www.affiliates4u.com/forums/ for ideas etc.... If you need linking opportunities then spk to me or Ash (I'm sure we could oblige)... |

I took the plunge and signed up for affiliate window, the account sign up was more like an entry visa into the US, lol, lets hope i pass ok, tough to answer some of their questions really, as i have no affiliate experience and no details of their products offered. Guess we will see what we see.

Nobby if you're unsure about anything there, merchants, programmes, how to find etc... feel free to pm me and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction. Make use of the offers blog (right sidebar) to get more ideas aswell, but keep the awin interface open and open the offers blog in a new tab - or you'll constantly deleting cookies to get back to the main interface as there's a little bug.
There's some decent merchants there which should convert OK, I average something like 15%-20% click to sale ratio accross that platform. Some a lot lower and some a lot higher though.

I agree with Dans recommendation of AffiliateWindow imo they are probably the easiest UK network to work with in terms of overall package (ie merchants they have and the easy to use interface) Equally if you want any advice or as Dan says links i can usually dig around and turn up something related on my sites.  |

Thanks guys, really appreciate that, i am just looking to set something up to provide a more stable secondary income, frankly i am begining to feel anything adsense related is a waste of time, and im dieing to get into sales. I have already pmed David for a few hints on retails sales, he was most helpful, both that an affilates is where i think i need to head. As is always the way, as my skill sets develop i am always seeing the greener grass on the other side, i just need to settle down find something that really converts at sensible levels that i can plough some effort into, and actually see some return, nothing more disheartening than seeing adsense clicks at 0.03. I found the sign-up a little daunting though, asking me for a small essay to go with my form, not see that before, lol  |

I don't mind at all but I'm not sure I can give you an acurate answer... The site in question, that earns the money has around 1300-1500 uv's a day, with around 3,000 pv's a day... Bear in mind those stats above are from one network of 10 and I do have other sites running in that network so stats are skewed... Other networks vary but one other earns £800+ per month, another is set to earn around £1,000 this month and the others vary from a few pounds to £80 or £90. |

I suppose with that kind of revenue you can slack on doing SEO externally and work only for yourself. That's the way to live, Well done!  Doing SEO for someone is fun, but working for oneself is certainly better!  At least to me daniboy, I didn't quite get what you mean by networks - networks of sites or affiliate programs? The approach was honestly accidental: It simply started as a basic blog to try and earn a few pennies, no research, no direction - the site was registered last September and I only decided to do voucher codes on it in February really. The site has had a lot of changes as I began to realise the direction I was heading. |

An interesting thread. I've been thinking of dabbling a bit in the affilliate market for a while now. My thinking is that if I can do seo for other people why not do it for myself. The problem is I've no real experience in the affiliate field. I've registered a domain, will get a wordpress site together over the christmas break. I'm just going to have to work the rest out as I go along I guess. Affiliate window sounds like a good start though.
