This free php script goes well beyond the usual web shop software,
in fact offering almost an entire business back end in addition to
the usual stuff.

Some of you might like the fact that it integrates with Joomla
versions 1 and 1.5. Freeway contains all the business stuff you might
really need without loads of addon modules or a giant bloat of OScommerce.

All in all, a pretty good pro-grade business software for FREE imho!

Had not come across either of those in my recent trawling Ash

Magento would appear to have a lot going for it in the features PDF.

Presta shop is still on 1.0 RC5 ... looks ok but on backburner for now lol.

What I am looking for is a decent fun for users free social cms with all
the bells and whistles like YACS but less wierd (and French lol). I have tried most
of the major opensource cms scripts. None of them offer quite what I and 3
partners need for a global project ... and none of us are anywhere near good
enough programmers to implement what we need from what we have found so far.
We need a shrewd skilled programmer as an integral member of the team.

Without further explanation, I can say this is an OPPORTUNITY ... not a job or contract!
Applications via my TIP email with some evidence of php and related skills/experience
from UK programmers would be welcome under the Subject heading PROJECT GM   
(Just so any replies do not get filtered out).

PS This *is* probably the most relevant part of the TIP to post this in 

Poking around the Magento site, they do have a load
of commercial support etc options .... and seem to be
releasing updated versions of the script evry couple
of weeks .... plus have a new Beta version ongoing.
One to keep an eye on ... but not deploy for a while imho.
One plus is that the development seems very *active* 

As a little update on this, it seems that Openfreeway lacks a few key items namely support and documentation.

For example the product import function does not seem to function correctly, i've been trying to install a test database consisting of a couple of products but not having any joy!

Thanks but i can't find any of the docs that cover the product import function.

I notice on the forum they mention that the quick upload function has never work and it'll be removed at some point in a new version, so they introduced the products import function that as far as i can tell has some bugs.

I'm very interested in Freeway but their roadmap seems to have been forgotten and I'm wondering how active development is?  They commented on the Drupal site that they would try and get a Drupal compatible release going by the first quarter of this year but that hasn't eventuated at all.

Does anyone know what's happening with the software?  If it's still very active, I'd love to use it for some upcoming web design projects.

It all really depends on what backoffice and related stuff you need imho Nobby.

On balance for a modest(ish) UK store, I would go for CubeCart, The commercial
V4 has loads more backoffice/admin stuff than the free V3.

OSC is a vast sprawling monster ...Magento seems "slicker" somehow.

Zen Cart has been around forever ....but the last I looked, some of the
modules etc were pretty old. Seems a bit stuck in yesteryear somehow.

Cubecart support, development and bugfixes always used to be top notch :0)

Thats about it really Nobby. I have yet to find a perfect one-size-fits-all
webstore free script.
