Anyone know how i can connect my laptop to my TV?

I want to watch a football game that is being streamed on the FA website (http://www.thefa.com/FAtv), i'd really like to try and watch it on a slightly bigger screen than my laptops.....

it depends on what input's your tv has, but you'll need either a vga to scart converter, vga to s-video, vga to rf, or dvi to whatever.

It's not like plugging a video in, as the horizontal and vertical refresh rates are different coming out of your pc as there are going into a tv... so you need hardware rather than a lead.

If your lap top's output is DVI, then a simple DVI > HDMI cable should work ok. Couple of quid off ebay, and probably around £30 in pc world/comet/currys.

If it's VGA, then you'll need to convert the analogue output to digital, so you're lookng more at £30+ I guess as it's hardware rather than just a cable. A simple VGA > DVI adaptor won't work as the signal will still be analogue.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, I found this... http://www.nexusuk.org/projects/vga2scart/ .... but I'm not sure how that will handle the different horizontal and vertical scan rates.

It's all hypothetical though, I've not tried any of the above as I don't have a telly, just a second 24" monitor and loads of downloads... it's £150 a year cheaper than a telly! However I have been looking into how I can get my PS2 connected to my 2nd monitor... similar quandry in reverse.

Hi Dave

I never got it working in the end, but the problem was with my laptop, its got vista installed on it and the display driver does not function correctly with vista so it runs in standard display mode only.

So that was the stumbling block, i had a svga to scart cable and a standard 3.5mm stereo jack cable in the garage so i was good to go.

In the end i ended up watching the game in full glory on my 15" laptop screen, to be honest i think if i got it displayed on my TV it would have been too blurry to watch anyway!
