Hi people. Im having a frickin terrible time with my connection. I did the latest windows update about 3 days ago (vista) and ever since my connection has been screwed. Pages are slow to load if at all and then they are ok for a minute, then it looses connection completely etc... I've had it up to my eyeballs and i will throw the machine out of the windows and loose my job if i dont sort it out soon! Anyone got any ideas?

I've checked my cpu usage when browsing and its 2%-5%. I get the same lag in IE. I've done a virus check and its all clear... erm... im hooked straight into the office router...?

Did your router come with any software that allows you to do a performance / speed test? Have you looked to see if you need any driver updates?

My wife uses Vista and her system is up to date, and she has not reported any recent Vista performance issues.

All the other machines in the office are networked into the router, i go straight in (im right next to it). Everyone elses connection is fine and i've tried different ports but its always the same. So the problem has to be with my machine....

Any advice on making sure drivers are up to date...? Ive got a Dell xps 700...

Are the other machines in the office running Vista as well?

I would look at updating any drivers that involve network communications including the router.

Also, I use Network Magic on my system. It has been a great help in diagnosing any connection problems I have. I also like it because it allows me to secure my wireless network.

Use the link above and download the trial version and see if it helps diagnose your problem.

Just downloaded driver detective. Didnt help much but it did say i had a problem with my network driver. It was all good in device manager so did "update driver". It said that there were non on-line so i just selected the one on the machine, re-assigned that one and rebooted. It seems (so far) to have done the job! fingers crossed!!!!

Im the only one on Vista so thats probably the soure of my aggravation! The clever techy who doesnt work here now decided it would be a good idea to put vista on this machine unlike every other PC in the damn building! Its caused me no end of problems!
