I am thinking of changing a page with a .htm extension to a .php so I can incorporate a contact form section within the page.

If I do a 301 redirect from the .htm to the .php (and obviously change all my internal links accordingly), will this create any problems to:

1 SEO - I have created a fair number of external links to the page and would not easily be able to get these changed

2 to the user experience within the website? (Note I am not bothered about the user experience of casual traffic following external links to the site as these are unlikely to convert into sales.)

Three of us in agreement then by posting three words, a quote and a smiley!

Anyway J1 the answer (when i've got a bit of extra time) is there is no problems with either SEO or useability.

We use internal 301'a all the time when we take over a new site or change the structure of an existing site.

Yes you will lose all your external link juice if you do a 301, other than that there are no problems.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there...

301's are the SEO friendly redirect as far as recall, unless things have changed recently.

Why?  Isnt that exactly what 301s are for, to keep that link juice?
