Some further changes to the SERPs from Big G: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/understanding-web-to-make-search-more.html.

So, even more reason to get accustomed to RDFa and Microformats!

Looks interesting and reasonably straight forward, however once it starts getting spammed to hell... will GG continue to favour it?

Oh man, just what I was thinking but it can't be ignored if it gives pages any kind of ranking benefit whatsoever.

Nice post Matt.

This is probably going to come in handy Rich Snippets testing tool

The only problem at the moment is Google seem to be a little picky with which sites they display snippets for. Think it might have something to do with trust. There's a good thread here for more info on how to implement RDFa or Microformats.

You guys are aware that this Rich Snippet thing only applies for sites that have reviews or events etc, not regular sites?  You can't just mark up content and hope that it appears in a rich snippet.

Yep. I havent seen any of the 'events' snippets yet, but I've seen plenty of the review ones: Marriot Hotels London, Holiday Inn Hotels London, Tripadvisor site search etc. I've looked at tripadvisors.co.uk alexa data to try and see if theres a jump in traffic when Google added review snippets, but the data isnt clear enough, there appears to be a jump but thats about a month or so before Google announce the addition of review snippets.
