hi guys & gals,

Is free index as good as it used to be? One used to have to provide a back link, but these days that isn't necessary... are links from free index still crawled with the url in the href showing like this -  href="/record_click.asp?id=215343&ctype=profile"

cheers

To be honest I haven't really noticed. Free Index tend to come up in a few of my clients traffic logs but they never send masses of traffic. I tend to focus on other areas. Have you run a click through a header check to see if the link is 301ed? or is the click effectively a dead link for search engines?

it's a 302  Embarrassed

and just checked another site which I listed way back when they provided a decent (followed) link (when they required a link back) and that's a 302 also.

Might have to remove their links now... share and share alike

[my post Monday afterthought...]

was yesterday one big blond moment?  Or was it just a Monday? Is a 302 ok after all?  Is Tuesday the new monday?  How long until I retire once and for all?

Is all research full of contradictory findings?Huh?

now according to this, http://www.webconfs.com/redirect-check.php, it's a search engine friendly redirect from Free index, so my next question is... whats the difference between a 302 and a 302, if one is considered friendly and another not?

302s suck man. Its gotta be a 301 for any real SEO benefit. But in this case what theyre probably doing is having the 302 redirect on a URI that is also blocked in robots.txt, effectively cloaking all the outbound links. If it brings traffic tho and it doesnt cost you a link, its all good.

cheers for the reply,

The clients like the FreeIndex listings and setting up so many I can get them all 'super highlighted'. To be honest I don't get time to check each and every one for traffic from FI, the odd one lets me know they've had a few enquiries from it so blah blah blah.

woo hoo, nearly home time!
