Has anyone tried submitterbot.com for semi-automatic entries to sb and directories?

It offers a dozen or so sb accounts I've never heard of and several hundred directories I've never heard of - but you don't have to log in to each account (as with some other software) and you can change the text midway.

Question 1: Are these - probably not all that good - backlinks worth having?

Question 2: Would getting a fair number of backlinks from these sites damage a brand new site? IE is it likely to tip a new site into the sandbox?

Incoming links can only ever have a neutral effect at worst so I don't see how they can hurt, plus any business is going to promote itself via directories so it's normal to see those kind of links and since directories rarely authorise new links immediately the link acquisition pattern will be fairly staggered.

All told I don't see how they can hurt and they might help.

Many thanks Boogaloodude - I asked because I read - I think Wikipedia - that sandbox was triggered by getting too many links too quickly??

If it's possible to hurt yourself by acquiring too mnay IBLs too quickly then it's also possible to hurt a competitor by doing the same thing to them deliberately.... (thing is Google admit that you can hurt competititors) so I don't think it's easy to hurt yourself badly with incoming links but it is possible.  Imagine that you're Google, how would you tell the difference between someone genuinely promoting their site and someone trying to spoof the ranking algo?  Just do what feels genuine.

As for the sandbox, some people don't think it even exists anymore, talk to SEOIbiza about that he knows more about it than I do.  When it did exist, my own belief is that it was triggered by attempting to rank for competitive phrases.

It is my experience that there is no Google Sandbox. Any site can rank well in a short period of time. They key is obtaining links from authority sites. Those links have a built in trust factor, whereas most directories do not. If there is a form of the Sandbox left it is that links from non-authority sites need to age before they have any decent value.

What is an authority site? I think that this is where the Google toolbar might be able to help *I can't believe I said that). Most authority sites seem to have a toolbar PR of 6 or above, although for less competitive KW's links from PR4 or PR5 sites seem to help.

It might seem a bit of a basic question but how does a pr0 or pr1 site go about getting a link from an authority pr4-6 site??? Most of the sites I do are for small local businesses - eg a bathroom company or plumber or nursery targetting the local town or county. They're nice websites, and they do the job of selling the person's business, but there's no world-shattering unique info on them that could possibly tempt a pr6 site to link to them.
