Hi guys,

a fine upstanding local interweb company has started what they call 'local link up'

a very vague faq can be found at  www dot locallinkup dot com  (note they're not getting a link)

the blurb keeps uttering the word 'Free' but knowing the company behind it, it aint gonna be free.

The link code which goes on ones site looks like...

<script id="XXXXX" src="http://blahblahblah" type="text/javascript"></script>

which will display a link to other members of 'local link up'

being javascript, the link will have no seo benefit, so what I'm wondering is WHATS THE CATCH?Huh?

an active link can be seen on this website, www.carpets4.co.uk, click refresh and the add changes. click the add and you'll fiond holding pages with no real webpage and website with no local link up ad (which is odd because in the Faq they state that the sites you link to are all part of local link up)

hmmm.... me thinks  Undecided

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is and this seems to be one of those cases  Wink

my client who ended up signing up decided to scrap it after a few days as it looked crap, an hour later I had the main dude from the company running the scheme ringing me wondering why the link had gone...

I have a feeling he'd only had one sign up, hence him realising it was gone so quickly!!!!!!

Yep. A guy I've just done a plumbing site for had the same call. So i did some digging and saw the same company connections as you  Wink. So advised him to sack it off. From what i figured the charges come from people who purchase more "link tokens". So the sites with low content would have to buy more tokens or write more content to earn more tokens.

But the thing with local tradesman sites. You can build one well with seo in mind, fire a few links at it and boom... you're top! The traffic that the guy gets from that is worth the money and theres no need to invest in anything else other than maybe some PPC.
